Global logistics provider Aramex has acquired two Kenyan courier and delivery companies as part of its plan to expand into emerging markets.

Dubai-based Aramex, which has five offices in the UK, has bought OneWorld Courier and In-Time Couriers with the aim of strengthening its hold in East Africa.

OneWorld operates on both a domestic and international level, while In-Time only delivers within Kenya.

Samer Gharaieh, chief executive for Aramex Africa comments: ‘We are now well positioned to extend the full range of Aramex services across Kenya, East Africa’s transport hub, and from there to regional and international markets.

‘We strongly believe that these acquisitions will provide us with a strategic foothold in a market that also serves as a bridge between East Africa and Asian markets such as China and India.’

Recently Aramex has made a number of partnerships and acquisitions in countries such as Turkey, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Vietnam.

In 2010 Aramex acquired a majority stake in Avanti, an express courier company in Malaysia, and in Expo Express Services, Avanti’s subsidiary company, in Bangladesh. It also formed a joint venture with Masan Services in Vietnam.
