Ultra Electronics has paid £5 million for specialist data recording company AudioSoft.

The terms of the agreement include Ultra paying a further sum if growth targets are achieved by the end of 2011.

AudioSoft was sold by its founder Chris Brill, who remains with the business post-completion. The company will now trade as part of Ultra’s Tactical & Sonar Systems division.

This is the latest in a series of acquisitions the group has made this year, which has included US battlespace IT specialist ProLogic, submarine acoustic transducer maker Harris and signalling equipment manufacturer Magneto Inductive Systems.

Ultra Electronics employs 3,100 people in the UK and North America, focusing on high integrity sensing, control, communication and display systems.

AudioSoft provides data recording and analysis systems that allow organisations to record, preserve and locate information. Its products are used in the defence, air traffic control, police, emergency services, courts and national security sectors.

The Cirencester-based company has some 50 full time employees in the UK and the US.
