Ultimate Products, an Oldham-based supplier of houseware and electrical goods, has acquired Manchester-based iPod supplier Intempo. The size of the deal was not disclosed.

Intempo, founded in 2003 by Bernadette Spofforth, supplies high street and online retailers with MP3 speakers, docking stations, DAB radios and other accessories. The company generates a turnover of some £6.5 million.

The deal falls into Ultimate’s strategy to generate revenues of over £100 million. Andrew Gossage, chief financial officer, said: “We don’t exactly have a war chest, but we do have financial backing available should the right opportunity present itself.”

Gossage added: “Acquisition is a key part of our plan and I believe we can do another two during this calendar year. It is not a bad time to be looking at opportunities and we are being shown a number of things at the moment.”
