Sarah Anglim, managing director at Meteor Parking, tells GrowthBusiness that leaving her law career behind ended up being her best business decision. 

I set up my meet-and-greet airport parking business in 1984 at Gatwick Airport, while I was studying for a law degree.

I later qualified at the bar and started a successful career as a barrister, all the while still running the business. By 1995 I was juggling the two, getting up at hideous hours sorting out business stuff then commuting to London for work then back down to Gatwick to do more work at the business.

I realised I needed to make a choice and I took the risk and gave up my law career. I was now able to give 100 per cent to the business and it had a massive impact.

From 1997 onwards, the company grew rapidly and it now has sales of £5 million – which wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t given up being a lawyer.
