Conference takes M&A global
Article Date: Dec 02 2008M&A magazine’s first Expanding Internationally conference gathered ambitious owner-managers looking to move into growth markets.
Seasoned M&A practitioners presented detailed analysis on a range of areas, from international expansion strategies and M&A hotspots Russia and China to mitigating financial risk and post-deal integration.
John Bates, professor of entrepreneurship at the London Business School, gave animated analysis of the first 100 days after making an acquisition overseas, imparting insights on how acquired companies should be integrated into the corporate strategy for a successful outcome.
As the founder of four start-ups, Bates cited ineffective “implementation” as the most common reason why acquisitions failed to meet their full potential. He stressed the need for “a sense of urgency to avoid deal torpor, strong management skills to provide a powerful, guiding coalition, and the communication of a strong vision” as crucial to overseas deal-making.
The Expanding Internationally conference took place at the Novotel St Pancras Hotel on Thursday, 27 November. For more information on M&A events, click here.
