Security deal boost for McAfee

Article Date:  Sep 23 2008

McAfee, the second largest US maker of security software, has announced the acquisition of California-based Secure Computing Corporation for some $413 million (£251.2 million).

Secure Computing is a provider of network security with a product portfolio that spans businesses of all sizes. Through the acquisition of Secure Computing, McAfee expects to take another step toward its goal of strengthening its position in security risk management (SRM).

“The announcement of this pending acquisition is a natural extension of our company’s security-only focus,” said Dave DeWalt, CEO and president of McAfee.

He added: “We expect the pending combination of the two companies will create annual projected combined revenue of just under $500 million in the network security segment of our SRM portfolio. We believe that this acquisition will allow us to immediately establish a leading and highly competitive position in the network security space.”
