‘100% jam-proof’ shredders launched

Article Date:  Jul 03 2008

Office accessories supplier Fellowes has launched a range of shredders designed to ‘completely eliminate paper jams’. If this eye-catching claim is true it will end a trivial source of frustration in the office and boost business’s ability to resist identity fraud.

With prices starting from £179.99, the Intellishred range (models PS-79Ci, SB-89Ci and SB-99Ci) is equipped with a sensor that can tell when you are overfeeding, or indeed underfeeding your shredder. If you’re giving the device more paper than it can handle, a red light flashes and it automatically pauses, allowing you to remove excess paper.

In an effort to make Intellishred not just fool-proof, but idiot-proof, the machine can also detect when paper is being misfed or fast-fed. Depending on how bad the problem is, it will either turbo-power through the job or reverse the paper out so it can be removed.

CDs, credit cards, staples and paper clips can all be shredded as well as paper, and there is an inbuilt safety device that stops the machine if the user’s hand gets too close to the moving parts.

Boasts Tyron Hill, European marketing director at Fellowes: ‘This new series offers everything you could want from a shredder.’ The only thing it can’t do is put Humpty together again.
