Business channel names launch day

Article Date:  Oct 25 2006

As foreshadowed by Growth Company Investor in August, London International Television's 'The Business Channel' will go live on 20 November.

The brainchild of London International founder Martin Everard, The Business Channel is a new digital satellite TV channel planning to bring 'a fresh approach to programming for a business-minded audience'. Its strategy is to offer a combination of 'entertainment, business information, documentary, education and reality', targeting 'the growing audience which requires factual information and a sharing of knowledge and experience in business-related subjects'.

Everard, an experienced TV producer and consultant who produced BBC's Talking Movies series, prepared the ground by securing an initial £1.1 million from US video games/DVD movies producer GameZnFlix. The American group, which has taken 25 per cent of London International, may invest up to another £13 million over the next year and Everard has not ruled out an eventual AIM float for London International if the project pays off.

He wants to establish The Business Channel idea as 'the natural home' for programmes on a broad range of business themes, 'without the need to channel hop'. Some will be aimed at bankers and fund managers, while others will target students and budding entrepreneurs.

A 'business centre' will allow advertisers to 'interact' with viewers and there will be scope for sponsorship deals involving brand product promotion and placement. The 'Good Trader', broker and journalist-turned author Chris Dunn, will submit the economic role of central banks to mordant scrutiny, while ABC Australia's 'The Murdochs' will chart the early career, ruthless and dynastic power of the media tycoon and his family.
