Profits continue to soar at ambitious cake manufacturer
Article Date: Jan 16 2001Cake and pastry group Inter Link impressed the market today with soaring sales and surging profits. Helena Keers reports.
In its interim statement today, the group reported sales 26.6 per cent ahead at £6.73 million. At the pre-tax line the figures were even better, with profits up 55.4 per cent to £752,000. Co-founder and chief executive, Alwin Thompson buoyed the markets further by remarking that he was 'ambitious' for Inter Link to grow sales to £30 million for the year ended 2001.
The recent acquisition of the Newton House bakery for £4 million, following a fundraising of £5.8 million, means that the group is now comprised of five different subsidiaries (the other four are Inter Link, Crossfield Foods, Lisa Bakery and Maid Marian bakeries). The Newton House purchase should prove earnings enhancing as it turned in profits of £601,000 in the year to March 2000 on turnover of £5.6 million. Further acquisitions are planned as there is £2.67 million remaining of the money raised.
House broker Brewin Dolphin Securities predicts full year profits will climb to £1.8 million for 2001. The shares ended the day 27.5p higher at 315.5p.
