Synergy initiates acquisition plan

A company formed to build a group of insurance brokers is celebrating its first acquisition after completing the takeover of a business in Bedford. Synergy Plus has bought CUS Underwriting, which places more than £6 million of insurance premiums a year.  more

United Drug targets US firm

United Drug, a provider of services to healthcare manufacturers and pharmaceutical retailers, has expanded its operations in the US after completing an eight-figure acquisition. The group has bought Sharp Corporation, a pharmaceutical contract packaging specialist, for $99 million (£49.3 million).  more

Investcorp announces CEME deal

Investcorp, a London-based provider and manager of alternative investments, has agreed to buy an Italian producer of pumps and valves for domestic appliances. CEME, which makes components for espresso machines, steam ironing systems and condensing gas boilers, is being sold by Barclays Private Equity three years after it bought the business.  more

Intel leads €85 million Sulfurcell round

German solar module developer Sulfurcell has received funding of €85 million (£68 million) to expand its production facilities. Intel Capital, the venture arm of the computer hardware supplier, led the fundraising, investing €24 million of its own.  more

Bowmark in £100 million deal

Mid-market private equity firm Bowmark has sold Education and Adventure Travel (EAT), a UK-based school travel agent, for £100 million. The acquirer is DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, part of the Credit Suisse financial services group.  more

A Surrey-based IT management services specialist has been valued at £23 million after it was bought by a US group. Touchpaper, a Woking-based business operating across Europe, Asia and the US, has become part of IT infrastructure management group Avocent.  more
