London: still top of the league

The UK’s capital is still the best place in Europe to do business, according to an annual study of 34 cities from real estate firm Cusham & Wakefield.

London maintains top spot, with Paris second and Frankfurt third. Barcelona has overtaken Brussels in fourth place.

Other UK cities to feature in the ranking are Birmingham at 14th place, Manchester at 16th, Leeds at 24th and Glasgow at 29th.

Birmingham is the most improved city in the entire survey, having moved seven places up the list and rising in 11 out of the 12 key indicators. The city’s office space is the best value for money in Europe, a distinction it holds jointly with Leeds, the study states.

London tops the league for its qualified staff, easy access to markets, quality of telecommunications, external transport links, languages spoken and internal transport. It is beaten by Dublin, Geneva and Warsaw for favourable regulatory climate, while Barcelona, Geneva and Munich offer a better quality of life, according to the research.
