More businesses applying interest to late payments
Article Date: Jun 23 2009
Late payment is a widespread problem
Debt recovery law firm Lovetts has suggested that more businesses are claiming compensation and interest on late payments than last year.
Some 37 per cent of all claims issued by Lovetts in the first quarter of the year had late payment interest or compensation applied, compared to 31 per cent in the same period of 2008, according to the firm.
Chairman Charles Wilson says, ‘This is certainly encouraging, but clearly there is still much to be done in encouraging more businesses to claim compensation and interest and thus adopt this effective deterrent against persistent late payment.’
Wilson adds that even if there is a query over an invoice, a creditor may still be entitled to claim late payment interest and compensation on any amount the customer admitted was due.
