Oracle has agreed to acquire storage vendor Pillar Data Systems providing Oracle with a compelling SAN storage architecture.

Oracle says the acquisition will help it offer a complete line of data storage products that help run its software faster and more efficiently.

While financial deatils of the deal were not disclosed, the deal does not involve an up-front payment, only future compensation based on the attainment of certain goals by Pillar Data Systems.

Oracle says the amount will be determined by an independent committee of Oracles board who have said it does not expect it to be material to its financial position and there is no guarantee it will pay anything.
