Mackie passes BVCA baton
Article Date: Aug 09 2005
Former Murray Johnstone Private Equity director Peter Linthwaite has been confirmed as the new chief executive of the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA) and will assume his new position as of 1 September.
Linthwaite succeeds outgoing chief executive John Mackie, who is stepping down after five years at the helm. Announcing his decision to quit back in March, Mackie reasoned that ‘it is time to bring in somebody new to take the BVCA to its next phase of development.’ Having worked as a director of Murray Johnstone between 1990 and 2001 (latterly as managing director of the group’s Asian business) and subsequently founded mid-market private equity group Royal London, Linthwaite’s experience has been cited as key to his appointment.
‘Peter joins us at a time when the industry faces a number of challenges on policy and regulatory issues in the UK and Europe,’ BVCA chairman Vince O’Brien explains. ‘His lengthy experience of the private equity world will make him well-equipped to deal with these.’
