The new Jawbone headset

Making calls on your mobile from construction sites or in noisy pubs has just got easier, according to Aliph, manufacturer of the newly relaunched Jawbone Bluetooth headset. The new Jawbone is half the size of the old model and promises to eliminate as much as 90 per cent of the unwanted background noise when you’re making a call.

Supported on the ear by a small leather strap, the headset uses the “NoiseAssassin” system originally developed for DARPA, which creates technology for the US military. This works by differentiating between the speech of the mobile phone user and background noise such as pub chatter, machinery, traffic and even wind noise.

The gadget also doubles as bling. Aliph COO and designer Yves Behar introduced a bevelled diamond pattern across the face of the headset, which measures approximately 5cm by 1cm. Says Behar: ‘Products that live on our face need to be designed differently from typical technology wares. We regard them as personal accessories or even jewellery.’

The product has four hours' talk time before needing to be recharged, which takes less than one hour. It comes in black, silver and rose gold and supports Bluetooth 1.1, 1.2 and 2.0.
