Wireless charging

Article Date:  Oct 25 2007

Everyone who owns a mobile phone, a PDA or an iPod has had its battery die on them at one time or another and, inevitably, it tends to be when there’s no charger in sight. If there is one, you can bet that it’s not the right fit anyway.

Arizona-based mobile technology company WildCharge has come up with a solution that not only does away with the need to carry various traditional chargers to work with your many devices, but gets rid of all those messy wires in the process.

The WildCharger pad is a thin, flat surface. Once a mobile phone or other electronic device is placed on the pad it begins to charge. A single pad can be used to charge all your portable devices.

The only catch is that you need to enable your portable device to work on the charger by replacing the device’s back cover with an adaptor. The adaptor contains tiny external contact points that close the circuit with the pad.

The company claims that the WildCharger doesn’t interfere with the operation of electronic equipment, has no impact on reception quality, emits no harmful radiation and delivers power as efficiently as if the devices were plugged into the wall. So, for around £45, you might be able to wave goodbye to the days of borrowing your colleague’s charger.
